gas stations at night are like a whole different dimension. you walk into a fluorescent lit store to grab a coke or fucking peanuts but it doesn’t seem real. there’s always one other customer in the store and they stare at the chips for much longer than you should. the background music is so soft in the background you can hardly make out the olivia newton-john playing. there’s always a guy that cuts in front of you before you reach the counter to buy a pack of camels. the cashier is either so sleep deprived you can hardly hear your total or too energized for a 2 am shift. you walk back out to your car with your ‘thank you come again’ plastic bag of late-night snacks, feeling as if you just woke up from a dream.
