I often get shit from other students because I tend to mix American and British English. But you know what? Fuck that. It’s not like we got much of a choice. In school British English gets treated like some sort of superior form of English, like, sure you won’t fail if you use American English, but really, why would you want to speak American, poor thing? Meanwhile outside of school we get bombarded with American media as though no other countries exist. And you can’t escape English, thanks a lot, we’re stuck with it as a lingua franca now. But if it’s the world’s language, then that means it’s also my language, and I can do whatever the hell I want with it. So watch me mix different varieties in every sentence, I don’t care. It’s my English now, and if you don’t like it then die mad about it.
