I’m so confused by Tolkien fans who create this bizarre divide between book fans and movie fans, as if you somehow can’t be both?? Like, do Peter Jackson’s adaptations (and okay I’m talking about LotR rather than The Hobbit here) cover every detail of the books? Certainly not, but if you the viewer has read Tolkien’s work then surely that only serves to enrich your viewing experience? Watching the Appendices in the extended editions, you can see that Jackson’s team were clearly avid Tolkien readers and cared about including details from the legendarium, even if it was only in the background, but some of y’all are really out there like calling movie fans peasants or whatever. Idk it’s just we’re so lucky to have such peak quality adaptions—as someone who’s read Tolkien’s work extensively I don’t have any trouble then taking what I know and letting that complement my watching the movies.

The How To Train Your Dragon movies didn’t have to go that hard, but they did that. They did that for us.
