i’m all out of patience for films about gay people coming out to their families that focus on the (straight) family members’ reactions to this ‘‘‘totally unexpected revelation’’’ and the ‘‘‘heavy burden’’’ it places on them to come to terms with their child’s identity before they realise that Gay People Are Humans Too (!!!) and deliver a superficial apology to their rejected son or daughter, who accepts this instantly in spite of potentially years of homophobic abuse that they’ve suffered at the hands of the very people who are supposed to love them unconditionally
