“The greatest danger facing us is ourselves, an irrational fear of the unknown. But there’s no such thing as the unknown — only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood.”
today i learned that the famous “nuclear wessels” scene from star trek iv (the whale one) wasn’t scripted or staged at all. grandpa leonard (leonard nimoy, director) told nichelle and walter just to ask random people in the street in san franscisco where alameda and the “nuclear vessels” were. so they played uhura and chekov ad lib while grandpa leonard subtly filmed from a little distance away. all the people’s reactions as they walked by were genuine, and the nice brunette girl who answered their question really was a nice brunette girl answering their question. they had to chase her down and negotiate a contract to pay her for having a speaking line in the movie. and it became one of the most popular moments in the whole franchise. i love star trek.
quark and garak are the only two people on the station who have space grindr and they keep getting matched. they refuse to acknowledge it and delete the suggestions. one day, another person appears in the area. then several more. its the weyouns
I go to a women’s college. We have a walkway where bricks can be purchased by alumnae. Most just say names or class years/mascots. But this one. This one is special. It speaks to me.
honestly workplace comedies have ruined any prospects of me getting a job i’ll actually love because if my coworkers and i don’t become a weird and unlikely but very loving family i’m suing
one of the billion things Hollywood / television needs to fucking stop doing that’s become a specific obsession at this point:
making loudly racist white male characters just to guilt trip the audience with “bbu..utt ;;thheeyy aae ggooo;;d peeoopple you,, juusT ddon'tt nueddrrsstand” and making the biggest idiots in viewing history go “oh my gosh I guess racists have feelingzuh we are wrong to hate themm do we not all bleed the same”
we literally don’t need anymore of this shit, especially considering the fact that VIOLENT WHITE RACISTS are treated more humanely by fandoms than actual minority characters (including mistreatment from their own writers)
me lying in bed 11:45pm barely managing to keep myself awake: the weird, naive ways in which longshot and shatterstar often relate to the world around them (from poor social skills to straight up errors in cognition) are the direct result of the violent, tv-obsessed world they grew up in and thats just super fucking juicy to be honest
me lying inbed 3:07 am drinking some cold water: they essentially did not have any friendly contact until they joined the rebellion, and even then it wasnt so much friendship as allyship, working toward a common goal. up till then they’d been raised by television and nameless faceless beings for whom they were expected to kill and die
before coming to earth they were basically hollywood as a whole condensed and smashed into people. like echolalia but all the time, about everything, forever, because you’ve never had people to talk to or relate to or correct you when you misunderstand something. im willing to bet most of the things star says are recycled lines from cool movies he saw when he was 15 (which, to be fair, Same) and from my point of view thats a spicy meatball
me barely keeping eyes open but still absolutely chuggingthat water: its really amazing how like? gentle they are considering the world they grew up in. i mean obviously they do have a lot of weapons that they use often to kill people because thats kind of what you do when youre a comic book character but like look back at longshots early interactions with the xmen…he was so amazed by everything he saw. he made friends with the ocean
