okay so i’m a bit drunk but imagine if owning a sword was still a perfectly normal and legal thing to do and everyone customised theirs like you do with phones, like,, you can get a rose gold plated sword or a fancy sheath to hold it like a phone case how awesome would that be

something i wish was explored more in star trek is the development of
language in a diverse, multicultural society like the federation, made
up of so many different alien species from a wide range of planets.
like, sure, there are universal translators, but what do idioms like
“get off your high horse” mean to a society without horses? what’s
another alien species’ equivalent, if any, of slang and shorthand
abbreviations of common words and phrases, like ‘lol’? do they have
their own memes that reflect the state their society and culture?
