do you ever think about how great a Pacific Rim sequel COULD have been and get just a little angry?? Guillermo Del Toro carefully crafted his universe and had so many amazing details (not to even mention the stuff that didn’t make they movie!!)…it’s visually impressive with wonderfully fun characters and it’s world is just one you can’t help but get immersed in! The possibility’s for world building and character exploration in the 2nd were so big and they….watered the world down and made it generic. they killed, to quote Stacker, “the best and brightest” character from the original in such a bullshit way that in no way was a proper sendoff. they turned one of the funnest characters in the villain (which I wouldn’t have a big problem with if was done better tbh). they left out characters I would’ve loved see to return (Raleigh?? Tendo?? Wasn’t Herc Hansen made Marshall after Stacker died?? What’s he up too??). they pretty much stepped all over the concept of drifting set up in pacrim. they added the fuckin trolololol song. where was the beautiful lighting? the ultra memorable characters? and to me the worst thing was Uprising doesn’t have the same sense of both excitement and straight up love that comes from pacrim. I can tell Guillermo cared so much about his movie… but I’m not saying it’s total garbage. actually it kinds frustrates me that despite the giant flaws and how much of a disappointment it was to me, I still love it. It’ll never ever come close to my love for pacrim but it’s got it’s moments (John Boyega was pitch perfect and the mega kaiju was a really nice design and I loved anything with Newt or Herman, despite how much better it could have been)…so credit to the world that Guillermo built that I’ll probably just always love anything they put out JUST because it’s pacific rim (please god let there be a 3rd third one this cannot be the end this universe is left on)…but doesn’t mean I’m gonna let forced in meme songs and cheap shock deaths and the like get off without comment because it’s just…not good at all
