im gonna crosspost a big ass essay I put in my group chat because I’m still thinking abt it, warning for pacific rim uprising spoilers
im thinking about how I didn’t HATE uprising, but it also… wasn’t good, and among many things pacrim uprising was missing a certain something… but like one part of its faults was that… it almost felt like propaganda in comparison to the first film.
in pacrim 1, ppdc was struggling & stacker literally stated they were the resistance at one point, because they were. they’re fighting against a power that seems to be ungodly powerful in comparison to themselves, that they know very little about, that they are not very prepared for, and are receiving little no support from the government or anyone but themselves to further their cause. i would also like to point out the only real “extremists” depicted in the movie are kaiju cultists that appear briefly and portrayed as nonviolent.
in uprising, however, ppdc is literally just… the world military. its the highest military power and is receiving any and all funding and they are just shitting out giant robots and riding them around for little to no reason other than “just in case shit happens again, in the meantime, were gonna use them like overpowered police cars” (ie november ajax vs scrapper in the beginning of uprising). any and all resources they might need to expend are fair game. also in contrast, extremists in uprising, again depicted briefly in sydney, are depicted as frothing violent idiots saying that “kaiju have rights protect the kaiju yadda yadda” despite the fact that literally kaiju have been gone for TEN YEARS and as far as anyone knew there was little to no chance of them coming back. what’s the point of having kaiju justice warriors defending something that isn’t relevant anymore and hasn’t been relevant for a decade
pacrim uprising really just doesn’t have the real rallying power struggle that has the audience rooting for the whole team like pacrim 1 did
and furthermore in uprising the ppdc is so bloated with resources and like when they defeat the kaiju it’s like “yeah of course they would why wouldn’t they” instead of pacrim 1s “we have to defeat the kaiju, but given what we have, how are we going to do this?”
and back to my point of uprising jaegers being overpowered police cars… like???? i made a comment to my friend on my second watch about how much fucking money it must be to not only deploy a jaeger but also to keep it RUNNING and just to have it wandering around to police people who are more than likely living in poverty, jake & his crowd excluded….. it’s just an excessive display of wealth and power lmao.
it goes entirely against gdt’s vision.
ANYWAY long post aside here’s my most galaxy brain take of the day
like i want you to all know that i have been inexplicably hot for charlie day for a good few years it’s just suddenly become socially acceptable to admit it
Is it now socially acceptable to admit that you also had a massive thing for burn gorman because…
it’s never NOT been socially acceptable to have a thing for burn gorman like have u never seen torchwood
if you sneeze in a jaeger does your partner sneeze with you since you’re linked? does the whole jaeger sneeze along too or is it programmed not to? have jaeger pilots ever sneezed and accidentally ended up activating one of their weapons?
sometimes you text someone and they don’t even have to tell you they’re straight.. you just know. there’s like a specific typing style that’s so distinctly hetero. i can’t be the only one to notice this, right?
i have a friend that just texts so painfully straight. why do cishets use so many emojis??? where’s the Random Capitalisation? the misuse of ellipses and commas,,,…….?? the overuse of question marks even when it isn’t a question??? no relevant acronyms or keysmashes lol fbdkdksks??? how do you convey emotion like that?
bitch no one is oppressing you by not fucking you and your talons!!!!!
there are so many things about this but also like girl it doesn’t even matter at the end of the day if your partner is into it so why share that you keep everyone dry talons or no!!!!!!!!
“And while my nails may seem to erase my queerness at first, I really feel my most queer at my most feminine. After all, how many queer women do you see with long nails? It doesn’t get more ‘queer’ or subversive than that.”
