Look guys idk but Glorfindel not being in Fellowship isn’t even the worst of it. Aside from being deprived of the carefree sass of this shiny boy, which is already bad enough, we really don’t get to see how fucking powerful an elf who walks under the Valar can be.
On the one hand we have the Nazgul and Arwen in their epic chase - which is still one of my favourite moments in cinema - but Glorfindel had the Nazgul fucking fleeing from him and instead of taunting them into the Bruinen like Arwen, Glorfindel drove them into it.
Just being close was enough to scare five Nazgul into running. That’s what I would have liked to see. Just Glorfindel doing what he does best; being better than creatures thought to be unbeatable.
Also, Arwen stole his horse and that offends me personally.
Not to mention and just to emphasize how terrified they were of Glorfindel, the Nazgul have an aversion to water. Like legit afraid of water, to the point where they refused to step foot into it unless absolutely necessary.
The fact that the mere sight of Glorfindel drove them into the river says a lot.
Yes yes yes! One of my pet peeves is that Tolkien sent Glorfindel back to Middle Earth and then never gave him much to do. He must have played major roles in the wars against Sauron in Eregion, in helping Elrond establish Rivendell, and in the Last Alliance and the Siege of Barad-dur (I’m of the Glorfindel-returned-in-Second-Age-not-Third-Age school) but Tolkien tells us nothing about that! All we have is Fornost, and let’s not forgot how the Witch-King of Angmar fled from Glorfindel in terror then. That was when he released the prophecy that the Witch-King would be killed “not by the hand of man”. And that seems to be the sum total of his contribution to Second and Third Age history.
I need more Glorfindel.
