one thing i love about language is the permanence of idioms. like, we still say “penny for your thoughts” even though pennies are no longer as valuable as they were a few decades ago, and have gone out of circulation entirely in many currencies. and “get off your high horse” and variations are still a popular saying, even though horsemanship is nowhere near as common as it was in past centuries. language is constantly changing and evolving, but some things remain the same, and i think that’s beautiful.
