i’ll never understand the really common thing in progressive political circles where people are like “you used to believe (x bad thing) but now you say you don’t believe that anymore and you want (x good thing)? You’re clearly just faking it and saying that because you’re running for office”

like the idea that people can learn and grow over time or can change their beliefs from listening to their constituents is met with snide rebuke? i get how people can be extremely disillusioned, especially in the current climate (i certainly am), but there are so many people who it seems like want people to stay bad and wrong forever just so they can continue to dislike them or make fun of them and because they see conscientious change as a weakness or something that’s impossible
