Do fanfic discoursers ever…read anything other than fanfiction? Like, I feel like it’s only possible to be this horrified by problematic fanworks if you’ve never actually read a book.
Then again, if your only engagement with media is Marvel movies, that explains a lot about why you’d be so blindsided by anything that smacks of moral complexity.
Do they know what’s in books? Or do they sincerely think that all media has the emotional and thematic depth of a PG-13 blockbuster franchise, and naughty fandom pervs are introducing previously unprecedented elements to this uniformly tepid world?
The presence of moral complexity in the world does not negate the presence of things that are absent of morality completely.
There is no moral complexity, nor emotional or thematic depth in works that are aimed entirely at getting readers off to works of pedophilia. There’s nothing redemptive or worth engaging with in works that applaud and celebrate racism mindlessly, rather than examine it for what it is.
Then again, if your only engagement with other members of fandom is with those who share your faux-intellectual elitist stance that an appreciation for the ‘controversial’ is a sign of sophistication, that explains a lot about why you’re so far from the actual ballpark of where people are actually coming from with this ‘discourse.’
Like good fucking god, lol, how freaking tone deaf do you have to be to think that what you’ve presented here is a sizzling hot take that cut to the heart of the matter?
Fans of color, survivors, etc: *criticize fanworks that are mired in racism and pedophilia, rape and abuse apologism, condemn the widespread creation of such works and how they’re presented in the context of narratives that uphold, validate and even glorify or romanticize them, rather than critique or examine*
You: Oh I see what’s going on here, its cuz you’re all so sheltered and only read and watch entertainment-lite like Marvel movies, you can’t appreciate that there’s more darkness in the world than what you’d find there, and that’s what these fanworks are about.
Fans of color, survivors, all of whom who y’know….deal with racism, trauma, etc, daily: Ummm….yeah that checks out, sure.
