consider: boromir speaking up when denethor is berating faramir for letting frodo and sam leave with the ring instead of bringing it to gondor, speaking with the authority of one who knows its evil effects firsthand

boromir, who has learned to care for the smaller, often-overlooked and underestimated folk through his interactions with merry and pippin, looking out for and supporting his little brother more, arguing furiously with denethor when he attempts to shame faramir into trying to reclaim osgiliath; recalling his own defeat against a much smaller force and narrow escape from the jaws of death and asking him, “do you really want to risk losing another son?”

boromir being the one to confront denethor at the peak of the citadel when faramir is returned near-death on a stretcher, being able to get through to and convince him where pippin and gandalf could not, and helping him to rally the city’s forces with gandalf’s support and council

boromir mending the rifts opened up by years of bitterness and preferential treatment between himself and faramir and actively sticking up for him when denethor still can’t admit that he severely misjudged faramir and did him wrong by placing boromir on a pedestal

boromir serving aragorn - “my brother, my captain, my king” - faithfully, not as a great warrior or even as a steward, but as an ambassador of the crown, using his charisma and wit to win over the peoples of middle-earth to their cause

boromir restoring the pride and glory of gondor and of his family line without any need for use of the one ring
