okay but cmbyn winning an oscar - hell, cmbyn being given the green light to be produced in the first place - is so fucking insidious because the lack of lgbt rep in popular media is so goddamn low that pretty much any depiction of it is going to get points for being ‘woke’ no matter the presentation of the subject matter and everyone working on that film would have known that but they still went ahead and made a film that tells vulnerable young gay, lesbian and bi kids that it’s okay to ‘explore’ their sexuality with an adult who can and will take advantage of their inexperience, and validates pedophiles and minor-attracted persons who should be being discouraged from enacting their harmful fantasies, and the exposure it’s gotten just by being nominated for several awards is putting it in a spot where any criticism of it and the messages it’s putting out is going to face backlash just because it’s an oscar winner and everyone involved in the production of the film knew that but they still went ahead and made it, and to me that’s just completely unforgivable
