lotr meme ≡ 2/5 moments
Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.

Friendly reminder that in Faramir’s youth, Gandalf became a mentor and father figure to him where Denethor had failed. Denethor becomes resentful of this, shunning both and insisting that his son had become a “wizard’s pupil.”
Not only is it likely that Faramir’s obvious preference for lore over battle was inspired by Gandalf, it is also reasonable to assume that his personality was [to some extent at least] also a product of the wizard’s. Gandalf was the patron Maia of Nienna, the Lady of Pity. It seems only fitting that he would become a mentor to someone who Tolkien described as being “moved sooner to pity than to scorn.”
