“But if I may say so, though it was a grand day at Cormallen, and the happiest I have known, I never have felt that you got as much praise as you deserve.” “Of course not, Sam,” said Frodo. “I’m a hobbit. But why grumble? You’ve been far more neglected yourself. There’s never only one hero in any true tale, Sam, and all the good folk are in others’ debt. But if one had to choose one and only, I’d choose Samwise.” “Then you’d be wrong, Mr. Frodo,” said Sam. “For without you I’m nothing. But you and me together, Mr. Frodo: well, that’s more than either alone.””

#so i found this from ages ago backin my archive  #looking for something else  #and i’m reblogging it again because that’s the EXACT THING i was trying to say awhile back about lotr being about teamwork and friendship  #and nobody being able to do anything alone  #and that being what sets frodo apart from other everyman heros  #he doesn’t win because he’s Destined#he wins because people help him  #he’s an incredibly strong person and he manages to carry the ring through great hardship  #but the point is that he could never have done this without the other members of the fellowship  #and he acknowledges that frequently  #people who argue over whether frodo or sam are the true hero are entirely missing the point imo  #the point is that every single member of the company had a part to play#every single person in the story had a part to play  #none of us can do this alone  #there’s never any one hero in a story (via bookhobbit)
