so i’m watching episode 22 of moomins when moomin comes out of hibernation early and literally the first thing he does as soon as he’s woken up properly is start pining for snufkin i’m.
fellas i really can’t make this shit up and let me tell you it only gets MORE romantic with context
this gay bitch really worked himself into such a state desperately pining for snufkin’s return that he actually caught a FEVER like some 19th century romance novel protagonist longing forlornly for her absent lover until it makes her physically ill. this is, and i really cannot stress this enough, excruciating to watch right now.
i feel like we really don’t give moomin enough credit for being just as aware of snufkin’s personality type and boundaries as snufkin is of his. sure, he can be blinded by enthusiasm at times and tend to assume other people share his love of affection and companionship to the same propensity, but like when snufkin returns to moominvalley in the spring and moomin comes rushing down the hill to greet him with open arms, as soon as he notices that snufkin clearly isn’t in the mood for a big fuss of a greeting or any physical contact he instantly dials it down and just sits by him on the bridge and listens to him play the harmonica with obvious affectionin a way that really betrays the profound depth and significance of their relationship, that he can just know from snufkin’s body language and expressions without even a hint of verbal communication required his exact thoughts in that moment and how best to respond to them… just. the romance of it all!
