i think part of the reason barduil failed to ever gain traction as a Popular Pairing™ (apart from the fact that they actually barely interact and their entire relationship is based on subtext that isn’t even there) is because so many people assumed it’d be this more one-sided than anything attraction on bard’s behalf that thranduil eventually almost grudgingly returns as if anyone with eyes in middle-earth wouldn’t look at bard, a strong as fuck longbow-wielding archer who demonstrably loves and cares for his children and people so fiercely it’s actually stupid, wears his heart on his sleeve and refuses to just stand by and watch exercises of wanton cruelty or abuse of power by anyone, no matter their station in comparison to his own, and not immediately think holy shit, what an infuriatingly perfect dreamboat of a man,
