I've seen a lot of stuff about the racism in homesick but when I try to google it I get a lot of conflicting information. Do you have any resources/thoughts?
hmmm i do have some thoughts about the racism (and other forms of bigotry) present in homestuck and how it handles those topics, but as i’m white and haven’t finished reading it yet i don’t feel i would be able to provide the most meaningful or necessary take on it, at least at the moment (if i were to post an analysis i would want to take my time to make sure it was as thoughtful as possible, and possibly discuss it with other people and listen to their perspectives and experiences in order to avoid making assumptions or misconceptions).
i would however recommend the podcast “homestuck made this world”, which is an in-depth critical review of homestuck and covers topics like racism and other issues with the comic extensively and with additional context regarding the fanbase, the author, and the things, people and events that inspired the writing in homestuck at the time. it’s well-researched and the hosts do appear to be receptive to feedback from their audience. i can only speak for myself, but i’ve found it very helpful and informative.
