in the next batman movie selina is back in town to con bruce wayne which he knows but he missed her so much and obviously he can afford it so he just lets her

she reveals she’s robbed him and he’s like oh that’s fine lol if you needed money you could have just asked :) and writes her a check for a million dollars and asks when he can see her again and she’s like dang this guy is insane??

he was terrified she could never love him for bruce wayne meanwhile selina’s like okay edgy badboys are OUT rich himbos are IN but its the same guy

she expects batman to try to stop her at some point but he never does so she concludes that he just really hates bruce wayne for some reason which makes him all the more attractive

batman realizes she’s falling for bruce for real and he’s not even jealous he’s just like “you really like him? 🥺 that’s great 🥺” and selina’s like wtf

anyway she sneaks into bruce’s study or whatever to crack the safe hidden behind the painting and it’s full of roses, jewelry, bruce’s blank checkbook and a little note asking her to dinner. he thinks that this is normal behavior btw

finding out bruce in The Batman is a zillenial caused me existential dread at first, but actually it’s sooo funny. bruce wayne was on youtube watching bring me to life amvs of sasuke and shadow and going “they’re just like me fr”

I think one of the best things about the new batman movie is that rather than go the route of past adaptations where bruce is just this lone savior figure who stands apart in this sea of terrible heartless criminals, it makes it a point to show him as someone with deep roots within gotham and for whom the city’s degradation and the acts of cruelty that go on within it are deeply felt. it shows him as someone who has been the victim of incredible violence, as someone who is still carrying and processing that trauma (while also taking the time to explore his positions of privilege and how that privilege comes into play here) as someone who is able to empathize with other victims of similar trauma and who ultimately comes to understand that perpetuating a continuing cycle of violence is getting all of them nowhere. it takes a look at both the characters of bruce wayne and batman and gives us a hero who is able to look at a devastated city filled with devastated people and decide they’re all worth trying to save. this is a movie that says, “hurt people hurt people, but sometimes, hurt people can help each other too” and I think that’s brilliant.
