ive always hated when a vampire story is trying to distance itself from traditional lore or common perception and the vampire turns up their nose and says “and no. I don’t turn into a bat” like they’re so offended that you’d even suggest that they could do something so cool. well congratulations you’re uncool and boring goodbye

I think people really connected to battinson bc he’s just like. Clearly a good person. He wants to do good things and while he’s also very obviously troubled he’s trying not to let that control him and instead let it guide him to do better. Like he’s a little unstable and weird but he’s also kind and caring and gentle and he wants the city he calls home to be safe. He’s so obviously flawed and human but in his core he is good and I think he believes that most normal people are also good in their cores too.
